November 20, 2026 · One-day MuriPhys workshop
Bring your idea. Work on the application.
A strong application connects the product, the scientific question and the work needed to answer it. Our NIH SBIR/STTR writing workshop gives startup teams and grant applicants a day to develop that connection, with worked examples, group exercises and specific feedback.
What you will work on
- Specific Aims: turn the need, product and feasibility question into an Aims outline with measurable milestones.
- Study scope and budget: cost one research activity, identify who performs it and connect the cost basis to the proposed science.
- Team and partner planning: identify scientific roles, facilities, partner scopes and the supporting documents the application needs.
- Research Strategy: develop an Approach paragraph and examine experimental design, rigor and decision points.
- Mock NIH review: exchange drafts, critique the evidence and choose the next repairs.
- Submission planning: organize the remaining work with owners and deadlines.

Come with a real project.
Bring a short product description, a selected funding opportunity and any draft Specific Aims or budget. You can work on an Aims outline, one costed activity, an Approach paragraph and a review critique during the day.
The workshop also covers commercialization planning and North Carolina support resources. Selected teaching examples help make the discussion concrete.
